INTERIOR ENTRANCE
A grand entrance of stained glass, panelled doors and walls had fallen into disrepair. Our task here was to replace the rotten orangery entrance door with a re-construction, conserving the stained glass panel and re-using as much original timber as possible. Missing panelling was replaced with quarter cut oak and finely figured pippy poplar. Damaged stained glass was repaired throughout conserving cracked panes and replacing missing sections. The damaged Minton floor was reinforced and repaired with replacement tiles being purpose made to suit. Plaster run cornices and archways were reinstated and repaired. Carved corbels and architraves were repaired and missing components replaced. The panelling was designed to meet the parameters where the original panelling once fitted. Mouldings and panel sizes were influenced by decorative detail from other areas of the house and poplar was chosen because of the close proximity of poplar trees in surrounding woodland. The unusual figure and tones of poplar blended very well with the surrounding timbers. All the timber was traditionally hand French polished to a silky smooth beeswax finish.
