Upholstery

Traditional upholstering often incorporates a great deal of research, when working to a museum standard, in order to replicate the original craftsman's interpretation of a particular style or design. Handmade silks, fabrics and trim become the essential ingredient to capture the authentic appearance. However, not all seating furniture warrants this kind of attention and upholstering may involve a clever blend of old and new techniques as a preferred compromise. The use of staples and tacks together in the appropriate places can reduce man hours quite considerably whenever required. Modern and re-production fabrics are plentiful enabling all kinds of decorative schemes to be incorporated into upholstered furniture. All our upholstering is based on traditional techniques using hair and fibre where appropriate and where necessary we hand sew to form long lasting shapes and comfort. Lumber and seat springs are hand sewn individually into position. Soft fillings range from blended feather mixes to modern Dacron and each piece is initially finished to a calico stage prior to the final fabric being applied.
