A Passion for Travel
A beautiful memory box created from walnut in the main, banded to the edge in macassar ebony together with ebony stringing and linework in boxwood, ebony, boxwood separating the two timbers.
The centre of the exterior lid is decorated with the monogram "AFH" encompassed within a marquetry design depicting white magnolia flowers, symbolic of family, entwined by a blue ribbon that evolves into a wave on the right and a feather on the left all representing hope and a love for marine activities.
Within the box is a special things tray. The central tilting lid is decorated with a white feather and a quote by Emily Dickinson ; “Hope is the thing with feathers, That perches in the soul, And sings the tune without the words, And never stops at all”.
Each side of the inner box is decorated with a wave and three more quotes; “The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.” by Jacques Cousteau; “It is not down on any map; true places never are.” by Herman Melville and “Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us, or we find it not.” by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
The front of the memory box is fitted with a handmade lock with a decorative brass key. All of the interior is upholstered in fine turquoise suede. The timber is traditionally hand French Polished to a silky smooth aromatic beeswax finish.
The underside of the memory box is upholstered in black leather and is fitted with a central lozenge depicting the Wheathills Lady above the year your box was created, all within a coronet.
