Sail Chairs
A set of eight walnut elbow chairs celebrating the memories and passions of a specific family. Although part of a set, each chair is completely unique, rich with iconography relating to individual family members and their memories. All are linked thematically in overall design, representing the family unit.
The crest of each chair is fitted with an individually designed panel, the back legs joint a traditional chair frame to a turned and tapering front leg.
The design of the back panel of each chair alludes to a memorable family trip. The veneering suggests the final rays of light of the setting sun as it sinks into the ocean horizon. A marquetry lozenge encapsulates additional memories of this special family voyage. Carved drapery to chair arms represent a specific shared family memory - when the boat sail collapsed against its mast. The sail is held at its top by a bluebell (a recurring floral motif , symbolic of Mother) and held in position by a belt (representing Father).
