Vienna Wall Clock

Created in burr ash this highly decorated Vienna wall clock features a classical pediment strung in ebony. The fine colourful marquetry decoration is inspired by the cycle of the seasons and many motifs are taken from flora and fauna.

The Roman numeral dial is divided into quadrants, each reflecting a season. The first quarter depicts melting snows and emerging buds and features an image of a robin. The second quarter shows blossom of May and a blue tit. The third quarter celebrates a developing summer apple and the sound of the swallow. The fourth quadrant shows a ripening autumnal apple and goldfInch.

Silver, driven weights swing intriguingly from behind the faux clock back, which is decorated with riotous blooms: agapanthus, wild sweet pea, day lilies, blue and pink clematis as well as tiny creatures: snails, butterflies, caterpillars and a wren.

This unique work of art also features a concealed drawer to house tools required for the clock’s maintenance. The silver pendulum is fitted with a slight magnifying bob to create the illusion of movement from the agapanthus. The unique bespoke movement carries a series of chimes and is driven by three different sized weights.

(More information on the movement to follow).
